Japan is one of the most super-ageing societies. In a near-future Japan that looks very much like the present, the government has unveiled a modest, monstrous proposal to address the country’s demographic crisis. Under the innocuously named Plan 75, senior citizens are gently encouraged to sign up for a voluntary euthanasia program.

This results from the social structure and demographic structure which burden the working age.

Issues of loneliness in the society and hopeless – Loneliness and social isolation are growing public health concerns in our ageing society. Whilst these experiences occur across the life span, 50% of individuals aged over 60 are at risk of social isolation and one-third will experience some degree of loneliness later in life. Many interventions have been developed to combat loneliness and social isolation among older people. The individuality of the experience of loneliness and isolation may cause difficulty in the delivery of standardised interventions.

การอยากตายกับคุณภาพชีวิต (question of choices) – การฆ่าตัวตาย  เกิดจากหลายสาเหตุ  แต่สาเหตุใหญ่ที่ทำให้คนฆ่าตัวตาย  เกิดจากโรคซึมเศร้า  คนที่เป็นโรคซึมเศร้า  จะมีความรู้สึกเบื่อรุนแรงแทบทุกอย่างในชีวิต  เบื่อที่จะมีชีวิตอยู่ต่อไป  ความเศร้าที่รุนแรงมากๆอาจทำให้คิดว่าตนเองผิด  ไร้ค่า  และคิดอยากตาย การตายจึงเป็นเหมือนทางออกของปัญหาในระยะสั้น  ไม่ต้องเผชิญปัญหาต่อไป ความคิดของคนจะฆ่าตัวตาย  มักไม่เห็นหนทางแก้ไขปัญหา  ชีวิตมืดมน  และหมดหวัง  ทั้งๆที่ความจริงไม่ได้เป็นเช่นนั้น
